So easy...
This is a follow-up to an earlier post – 10 Creative Uses of Ad Slogans with a Domain Name. While doing research for the post, it quickly became clear that not many understood the concept of a slogan or tag line in a domain name. Although it was good to find some corporate companies using slogans in a domain name, it’s only a small percentage of them practicing this marketing strategy. I was especially surprised at some of the big name companies who own the domain name but did not resolve them to a site. Then there are some that don’t own the domain slogan or even registered them at all. Some names that don’t resolve are ItsMillerTime.com, DriversWanted.com and yes, even JustDoIt.com can’t get it done right.
Using a slogan in domain name is one of the basic building blocks in a business branding plan. Here are some bullet points why a slogan is used.
- it’s a basic element necessary in building an effective brand campaign.
- it enhances the name or provide a tiny glimpse of what the brand promises to deliver.
- brand recall is the main purpose of creating a slogan, it triggers the motivation of the consumers then driving them into action.
There are two different types of slogans.
- The business slogan is more important since it concerns the brand identity and reinforces the reputation of a company as part of its branding efforts. It impacts your distinction in the market and the power of your brand.
- Advertising slogans are created for a specific marketing objectives and over a short-period of time. It is more concerned over influencing a consumer’s immediate reaction to a given product.
Any form of business branding plan must involve the creation of a tag line. If not, then “You don’t KnowQuack.com.”

You indeed are right, this kind of marketing strategy is used by a small percentage of companies. Great article. Companies should read it and apply the rules.
Great thinking. I think that slogans, tag-lines and even basic call-to-action lines like “Enroll Now” if URLised, causes a billboard to explode. Now QR codes are being used – but in most cases people are too busy to stop and scan. If one can combine great URLised tag lines and calls-to-action with QR codes of that URL , that would be the ultimate solution.
